Established in 2001, NAO is an independent, family owned cooperage, located near Cognac, in the heart of 'Grande Champagne', premier cru of cognac. 

 

While the initial aim of the company was to offer a range of good quality used oak barrels and vats, NAO has advanced to manufacturing and supplying a comprehensive range of high-quality maturation solutions for wineries, distilleries and breweries around the world, combining family heritage with innovation.

In 2019, we looked to our past, and the work of Joseph Galiana, a respected and skilled vat-maker and great-grandfather of Gontran Beaudoin our CEO, to rebrand our range of hand made barrels as 'Giraud-Galiana'.

 

With a fully equipped cooperage, laboratory and a solid network of partners, NAO creates and supplies virgin wood casks, previously used barrels barrels and vats of different dimensions and origins, oak alternatives, tannins and liquid oak extracts.

In 2021 we added the specialist cooperage Tonnellerie de Cognac to our business, creating specialist hand made barrels for the spirits industry. This cooperage draws on the long tradition of making superlative barrels for the cognac industry. 

 

Our team of young, creative-thinking professionals, from different technical backgrounds have a wealth of knowledge across the oak, barrel making and wine disciplines.
